Here are a few basic techniques. But, these are a lot easier to learn when visualized, and if you cannot get it here, go straight to the links and follow the visual on my videos.
The poodle, the sword, and the flower are the simplest balloons and people seem to like the most. I recommend that you start with those three and learn them well before moving on.
Terminology varies between twisters, and to tell you the truth, it’s not that important. I have tried to use the most common/generic names in this manual, so if you see the same twists somewhere else with a different name, don’t get confused.
Basic Twist
Any balloon figure is comprised of a series of "bubbles" that are twisted in different combinations to convey an intended form. Each of these bubbles is formed by simply pinching the balloon where you want the twist and then twisting it! The pinch is important. Twists will only stay in place while held in your hand or when "locked". Learn to twist multiple bubbles without locking, and keeping
them in your hand. See the handle of the sword.
Fold Twist
This is a very simple twist that’s used in poodles, plant leaves, and a few other figures. It’s basically a large scale version of the pinch twist. Keep that in mind as you practice. To start the twist, make a long bubble, at least five inches.
Hold the balloon sections on either side of the bubble in one hand with the bubble sticking out, and then twist the bubble twice. One nice thing about a fold or pinch twist is that they are also locked twists and will not untwist by themselves. You can twist a large fold twist in two when making more than one fold twist. This is called a “double fold twist”, and is the best way to make sure they are both the same size. See the hands and legs of the teddy bear.
Lock Twist
When making three or more bubbles using the above method, the second two bubbles from the knot can be twisted to create a lock. It can be difficult to hold multiple bubbles while trying to do these, so spend some time practicing along with the videos to make sure you get it right, before moving on to the animals. See the face of the monkey.
